Some years ago, I had someone made me a Python client. It works under Windows, Mac and Linux. I have working versions for both the PIC18F67K22 and the PIC18F46K22.
I don't fully understand the difference between the two versions, but I can explain how I adapted it to work with the PIC18F46K22.
Can I post the source here? it is just one file. It needs pyserial and IntelHex.
