Hi,
I could not really find a place to post this, possibly need a general tab?
I keep looking from time to time about using a bootloader but I cannot get past the very simple thing on where to start. I have looked at the manuals and am still none the wiser. I have only used the Amicus18 with a bootloader and for that there was a bootloader file which was already created. What I seem to find with ds30 is the application where you select your project and download it but first the bootloader code must already be on the device.
This is the bit I am struggling to get past, it would be nice if there was an asm file with comments to show what needs to be configured or does the studio do that as well?
Once the bootloader file is on the device do you need to set all the configurations in studio everytime or can you save a configuration.

Regards,
I will upload the project I have made with the relative changes ( boot_mplab_project ) so if someone has any suggestions it would be great.
I changed the configuration bits, I remapped the inputs/outputs, I changed the fcy.....nothing.

Hi,
I have a project where I'm using Microchip's Flash EEPROM emulation library to store non-volatile data, (similar situation as in this post: https://picbootloader.com/forum/showthre...ht=an+1095).

I want to explicitly place the non-volatile memory because the EEPROM library will have an error if it tries to initialize a memory block that already has other unerased data in it from a different program. However, when I do this, the linker starts putting code in the memory areas where the bootloader would go. I tried to work around this by reserving a block of memory, but when I load the code I get stuck in the AddressError trap.

Code:

unsigned char BL_placeholder[1024]
__attribute__((space(prob), aligned(1024),address(0x00A400), noload));

I'm using a PIC24FJ64GB106 and the C30 compiler. If I understand this correctly, the bootloader would be placed at address 0xA400, this seems to be the case from looking at the memory map of the ds30 build.

I don't understand why I'm getting an addressing error after loading the program, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Should I necessarly connect the reset pin after pushing the write button in the GUI, or can I just unplugged the wires, and the supply to device, to make it work?

Hello Mikael and hello every one

I used in the past this fantastic bootloader with dsPIC33FJ128MC804.
Very reliable and usefull.

Now, I designed a board with a DSPIC33EP512MC806 with the Arduino form factor.
I'm just a hobbist so It is a board that I use at home to play with sensors, motors control, RC toys...Etc etc.

I saw that ds30 Loader for dsPIC33EP is not free. I can understand that but 150€ is too much for a hobbist like me.
Do you think it is possible to have a firmware with limitations ( fix baudrate, uart only, etc etc ) at a reduced cost ?

Thank you for your time
