Hello,

This is my first time using any bootloader so my experience is very limited.
I downloaded the ds30 loader free edition and tried building the project found at "firmware_12F_16F_XC8" folder using MPLAB X IDE v6.15
I am having trouble building the project even without making any changes(except putting a comment on "#error Do you need to configura uart pins to be digital? If not, remove this line")

When trying to build using the version mplab set(pack 1.2.63, xc8 v1.31) I get the following:

Code:

../src/user_code.inc:110:: error: (800) undefined symbol "EEADR"
../src/user_code.inc:132:: error: (800) undefined symbol "FSR"
../src/user_code.inc:134:: error: (800) undefined symbol "INDF"
../src/user_code.inc:211:: error: (800) undefined symbol "EEDATA"
../src/uart.inc:128:: error: (800) undefined symbol "SPBRG"
../src/uart.inc:135:: error: (800) undefined symbol "SPBRGH"
../src/uart.inc:137:: error: (800) undefined symbol "BAUDCTL"

When trying pack 1.6.241 and xc8 v1.31 :

Code:

"G:\Microchip\xc8\v2.31\bin\xc8-cc.exe" -c  -mcpu=16F1938  -D__DEBUG=1  -mdebugger=none  -mdfp="G:/Microchip/MPLABX/v6.15/packs/Microchip/PIC12-16F1xxx_DFP/1.6.241/xc8"  -fno-short-double -fno-short-float -O0 -fasmfile -maddrqual=ignore -xassembler-with-cpp -mwarn=-3 -Wa,-a -DXPRJ_default=default  -msummary=-psect,-class,+mem,-hex,-file  -ginhx32 -Wl,--data-init -mno-keep-startup -mno-osccal -mno-resetbits -mno-save-resetbits -mno-download -mno-stackcall -mno-default-config-bits -std=c99 -gdwarf-3 -mstack=compiled:auto:auto  -o build/default/debug/_ext/1360937237/ds30loader.o  ../src/ds30loader.s

Hello everyone.

I'm already use ds30 loader for a long time and now I'm trying to compile a new version to test.
Will post what I did until now without success.

I'm using MPLAB X IDE v6.05 with MPLAB XC8 Compiler.

First I opened firmware_18F_XC8 project from source code.
On Project Properties I changed to PIC18F87J60 and chose pic-as. I tried with XC8 but I couldn't go ahead.

On settings.inc

Configured the processor:

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; Device
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
processor       18F87J60                    ;xxx

I'm using a crystal of 25MHz than changed the configuration for that.

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; User preferences
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#define OSCF 25000000 //xxx oscillator frequency (including pll)
#define BLINIT 2000 //xxx hello receive timeout [ms]
#define HELLOTRIES 2 //xxx number of non hello characters received before branching to the user application
#define BLTIME 2000 //xxx data receive timeout [ms]

I'm using the UART 1 than I'm using the default configuration.

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; UART settings
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#define         USE_UART1       1           //xxx uncomment to use uart1
;#define        USE_UART2       1           //xxx uncomment to use uart2
#define         BAUDRATE        115200      //xxx baudrate
;#define USE_ABAUD 1 //xxx uncomment to use auto baud rate detection, READ ERRATA FIRST
#define         USE_BRG16       1           //xxx uncomment to use 16-bit brg

;#define        USE_TXENABLE    1           //xxx uncomment to use a tx enable pin
#ifdef USE_TXENABLE
#define TXE_DELAY 10 //xxx time in us to wait before transmitting after pulling the tx enable pin high
#define TRISR_TXE TRISD //xxx tris register containing tx enable
#define LATR_TXE LATD //xxx port register containing tx enable
#define     TRISB_TXE       TRISD0      //xxx tris bit for tx enable
#define     LATB_TXE        RD0         //xxx port bit for tx enable
#endif

Changed the configuration bits session for 18F87J60.

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

// CONFIG1H
config CP0 = OFF // Code Protection bit (Program memory is not code-protected)

// CONFIG2L
config FOSC = ECPLL // Oscillator Selection bits (EC oscillator, PLL enabled and under software control, CLKO function on OSC2)
config FOSC2 = ON // Default/Reset System Clock Select bit (Clock selected by FOSC1:FOSC0 as system clock is enabled when OSCCON<1:0> = 00)
config FCMEN = ON // Fail-Safe Clock Monitor Enable (Fail-Safe Clock Monitor enabled)
config IESO = ON        // Two-Speed Start-up (Internal/External Oscillator Switchover) Control bit (Two-Speed Start-up enabled)

// CONFIG2H
config WDTPS = 32768 // Watchdog Timer Postscaler Select bits (1:32768)

// CONFIG3L

// CONFIG3H
config CCP2MX = ON      // ECCP2 MUX bit (ECCP2/P2A is multiplexed with RC1)
config ECCPMX = ON // ECCP MUX bit (ECCP1 outputs (P1B/P1C) are multiplexed with RE6 and RE5; ECCP3 outputs (P3B/P3C) are multiplexed with RE4 and RE3)
config ETHLED = ON // Ethernet LED Enable bit (RA0/RA1 are multiplexed with LEDA/LEDB when Ethernet module is enabled and function as I/O when Ethernet is disabled)

Did all configuration, I started to try compile.
The first problem was with STARTADDR.

Following the code I found that STARTADDR is using BLPL64WP.

Code:

        #define     STARTADDR               ( MAX_FLASH - (BLPL64WP * 64 * 2) )                 //bootloader placement

But this constant is just defined for 18F and not for 18FJ.

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18F
#define     BLPL64WP        4                           //bootloader placement in 64 word pages from end
#define BLSIZE64WP 4 //bootloader size in 64 word pages, used by bootloader protection

#define     BLPLP           (BLPL64WP * 64/PAGESIZEW)   //bootloader placement, pages from end
#define     BLSIZEP         (BLSIZE64WP * 64/PAGESIZEW) //bootloader size [pages], used by bootloader protection
#endif

Another problem is that, on 18FJ define session, BLPL64WP and BLSIZE64WP are also used.

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18FJ
#define     BLPLP512WP      2                           //bootloader placement in 512 word pages from end
#define BLSIZE512WP 1 //bootloader size in 512 word pages, used by bootloader protection

#define     BLPLP           (BLPL64WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)  //bootloader placement, pages from end
#define BLSIZEP (BLSIZE64WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)//bootloader size [pages], used by bootloader protection
#endif

I tried to solve this errors doing the followed changes.

On IS_18FJ define session:

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18FJ
#define BLSIZE512WP 1 //bootloader size in 512 word pages, used by bootloader protection

#define     BLPLP           (BLPLP512WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)  //bootloader placement, pages from end
#define BLSIZEP (BLSIZE512WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)//bootloader size [pages], used by bootloader protection
#endif

On ds30loader.s:

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18FJ
        #define     STARTADDR               ( MAX_FLASH - (BLPLP512WP * 512 * 2) )                 //bootloader placement
Now it´s compiling with success but doesn't work.
The project is attached.

Hello everyone.

I'm already use ds30 loader for a long time and now I'm trying to compile a new version to test.
Will post what I did until now without success.

I'm using MPLAB X IDE v6.05 with MPLAB XC8 Compiler.

First I opened firmware_18F_XC8 project from source code.
On Project Properties I changed to PIC18F87J60 and chose pic-as. I tried with XC8 but I couldn't go ahead.

On settings.inc

Configured the processor:

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; Device
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
processor       18F87J60                    ;xxx

I'm using a crystal of 25MHz than changed the configuration for that.

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; User preferences
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#define OSCF 25000000 //xxx oscillator frequency (including pll)
#define BLINIT 2000 //xxx hello receive timeout [ms]
#define HELLOTRIES 2 //xxx number of non hello characters received before branching to the user application
#define BLTIME 2000 //xxx data receive timeout [ms]

I'm using the UART 1 than I'm using the default configuration.

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; UART settings
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#define         USE_UART1       1           //xxx uncomment to use uart1
;#define        USE_UART2       1           //xxx uncomment to use uart2
#define         BAUDRATE        115200      //xxx baudrate
;#define USE_ABAUD 1 //xxx uncomment to use auto baud rate detection, READ ERRATA FIRST
#define         USE_BRG16       1           //xxx uncomment to use 16-bit brg

;#define        USE_TXENABLE    1           //xxx uncomment to use a tx enable pin
#ifdef USE_TXENABLE
#define TXE_DELAY 10 //xxx time in us to wait before transmitting after pulling the tx enable pin high
#define TRISR_TXE TRISD //xxx tris register containing tx enable
#define LATR_TXE LATD //xxx port register containing tx enable
#define     TRISB_TXE       TRISD0      //xxx tris bit for tx enable
#define     LATB_TXE        RD0         //xxx port bit for tx enable
#endif

Changed the configuration bits session for 18F87J60.

Code:

;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
; Configuration bits, these macros can be found at the end of the inc-files located in
; C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPASM Suite\
; These can also be set in MPLAB IDE instead, they are found in Configure->Configuration bits...
;-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

// PIC18F87J60 Configuration Bit Settings

// 'C' source line config statements

// CONFIG1L
config WDT = ON // Watchdog Timer Enable bit (WDT enabled)
config STVR = ON // Stack Overflow/Underflow Reset Enable bit (Reset on stack overflow/underflow enabled)
config XINST = ON // Extended Instruction Set Enable bit (Instruction set extension and Indexed Addressing mode enabled)

// CONFIG1H
config CP0 = OFF // Code Protection bit (Program memory is not code-protected)

// CONFIG2L
config FOSC = ECPLL // Oscillator Selection bits (EC oscillator, PLL enabled and under software control, CLKO function on OSC2)
config FOSC2 = ON // Default/Reset System Clock Select bit (Clock selected by FOSC1:FOSC0 as system clock is enabled when OSCCON<1:0> = 00)
config FCMEN = ON // Fail-Safe Clock Monitor Enable (Fail-Safe Clock Monitor enabled)
config IESO = ON        // Two-Speed Start-up (Internal/External Oscillator Switchover) Control bit (Two-Speed Start-up enabled)

// CONFIG2H
config WDTPS = 32768 // Watchdog Timer Postscaler Select bits (1:32768)

// CONFIG3L

// CONFIG3H
config CCP2MX = ON      // ECCP2 MUX bit (ECCP2/P2A is multiplexed with RC1)
config ECCPMX = ON // ECCP MUX bit (ECCP1 outputs (P1B/P1C) are multiplexed with RE6 and RE5; ECCP3 outputs (P3B/P3C) are multiplexed with RE4 and RE3)
config ETHLED = ON // Ethernet LED Enable bit (RA0/RA1 are multiplexed with LEDA/LEDB when Ethernet module is enabled and function as I/O when Ethernet is disabled)

Did all configuration, I started to try compile.
The first problem was with STARTADDR.

Following the code I found that STARTADDR is using BLPL64WP.

Code:

        #define     STARTADDR               ( MAX_FLASH - (BLPL64WP * 64 * 2) )                 //bootloader placement

But this constant is just defined for 18F and not for 18FJ.

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18F
#define     BLPL64WP        4                           //bootloader placement in 64 word pages from end
#define BLSIZE64WP 4 //bootloader size in 64 word pages, used by bootloader protection

#define     BLPLP           (BLPL64WP * 64/PAGESIZEW)   //bootloader placement, pages from end
#define     BLSIZEP         (BLSIZE64WP * 64/PAGESIZEW) //bootloader size [pages], used by bootloader protection
#endif

Another problem is that, on 18FJ define session, BLPL64WP and BLSIZE64WP are also used.

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18FJ
#define     BLPLP512WP      2                           //bootloader placement in 512 word pages from end
#define BLSIZE512WP 1 //bootloader size in 512 word pages, used by bootloader protection

#define     BLPLP           (BLPL64WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)  //bootloader placement, pages from end
#define BLSIZEP (BLSIZE64WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)//bootloader size [pages], used by bootloader protection
#endif

I tried to solve this errors doing the followed changes.

On IS_18FJ define session:

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18FJ
#define     BLPLP512WP      2                           //bootloader placement in 512 word pages from end
#define BLSIZE512WP 1 //bootloader size in 512 word pages, used by bootloader protection

#define     BLPLP           (BLPLP512WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)  //bootloader placement, pages from end
#define BLSIZEP (BLSIZE512WP * 512/PAGESIZEW)//bootloader size [pages], used by bootloader protection
#endif

On ds30loader.s:

Code:

        #ifdef IS_18FJ
        #define     STARTADDR               ( MAX_FLASH - (BLPLP512WP * 512 * 2) )                 //bootloader placement
    #else
        #define     STARTADDR               ( MAX_FLASH - (BLPL64WP * 64 * 2) )                 //bootloader placement
    #endif

Now it´s compiling with success but doesn't work.
The project is attached.

Any help is welcome.

Hello,

I've been using the free version of DS30Loader with a PIC18F46K22 and needed more flash so am now trying to use the newer PIC18F47K40. The latest version (ds30_Loader_140817) does not seem to support this PIC. Is there a new version of DS30Loader that does support the PIC18F47K40?
Thanks,

Hi

I'm trying to get ds30loader running on a PIC18F46K22. My config looks like this:

; CONFIG1H
CONFIG FOSC = INTIO67 ; Oscillator Selection bits (Internal oscillator block)
CONFIG PLLCFG = OFF ; 4X PLL Enable (Oscillator used directly)
CONFIG PRICLKEN = ON ; Primary clock enable bit (Primary clock is always enabled)
CONFIG FCMEN = OFF ; Fail-Safe Clock Monitor Enable bit (Fail-Safe Clock Monitor disabled)
CONFIG IESO = OFF ; Internal/External Oscillator Switchover bit (Oscillator Switchover mode disabled)

; CONFIG2L
CONFIG PWRTEN = OFF ; Power-up Timer Enable bit (Power up timer disabled)
CONFIG BOREN = SBORDIS ; Brown-out Reset Enable bits (Brown-out Reset enabled in hardware only (SBOREN is disabled))
CONFIG BORV = 190 ; Brown Out Reset Voltage bits (VBOR set to 1.90 V nominal)

; CONFIG2H
CONFIG WDTEN = OFF ; Watchdog Timer Enable bits (Watch dog timer is always disabled. SWDTEN has no effect.)
CONFIG WDTPS = 32768 ; Watchdog Timer Postscale Select bits (1:32768)

; CONFIG3H
CONFIG  CCP2MX = PORTC1       ; CCP2 MUX bit (CCP2 input/output is multiplexed with RC1)
CONFIG PBADEN = OFF ; PORTB A/D Enable bit (PORTB<5:0> pins are configured as digital I/O on Reset)
CONFIG  CCP3MX = PORTB5       ; P3A/CCP3 Mux bit (P3A/CCP3 input/output is multiplexed with RB5)
CONFIG HFOFST = ON ; HFINTOSC Fast Start-up (HFINTOSC output and ready status are not delayed by the oscillator stable status)
CONFIG  T3CMX = PORTC0        ; Timer3 Clock input mux bit (T3CKI is on RC0)
CONFIG  P2BMX = PORTD2        ; ECCP2 B output mux bit (P2B is on RD2)
CONFIG MCLRE = EXTMCLR ; MCLR Pin Enable bit (MCLR pin enabled, RE3 input pin disabled)

; CONFIG4L
CONFIG STVREN = ON ; Stack Full/Underflow Reset Enable bit (Stack full/underflow will cause Reset)
CONFIG LVP = ON ; Single-Supply ICSP Enable bit (Single-Supply ICSP enabled if MCLRE is also 1)
CONFIG XINST = OFF ; Extended Instruction Set Enable bit (Instruction set extension and Indexed Addressing mode disabled (Legacy mode))

All memory protection is off too.

I set OSCF to 16000000

I added this to the UserInit macro:

clrf    ADCON0
clrf    ADCON1
clrf    ADCON2
clrf    ANSELA
clrf    ANSELB
clrf    ANSELC

clrf    CM1CON0
clrf    CM2CON0
clrf    CM2CON1

bcf     TRISA,7
bcf    LATA, 7

RA7 is connected to a MUX that multiplexes UART1 to an FTDI cable and a RN171 wifi module. The signal is getting to RX1 no problem, I can see that on my scope.

I also tried this:

; Toggle pin, frequency on pin = PIC frequency / 16
if 1
bcf    TRISA, 0
tsfloop        bsf LATA, 0
bcf LATA, 0
bra tsfloop
endif

And yes, the pin wiggles. Yes, I put back "if 0" after that.

Can I do something when I receive a chracter? If so, what?

firstly: great bootloader (I've been using it for a long time)

secondly, Im working on the PIC18F4550, just because I got a lot of them, but sadly I cannot make it run

*change the internal oscillator for all options
*disable the ADC, even uncomment the 38-39 lines on the usser_code file

still finds some other PIC for some reason, in this case the dsPIC33FJ128GP706A

attached the files and the screenshoot

thanks in advance
